The City of Janesville Assessor’s Office has recently distributed the 2024 Assessment Change Notices to property owners, with the expectation that around 8% of the city's real estate parcels will see a change in assessed value for the January 1, 2024, assessments.

According to the article, "State law requires that notices be mailed to property owners when there is a change in their assessed value from the prior year."

The Assessment Change Notices also provide information on the dates and times of the Assessor’s Open Book sessions and Board of Review hearings. Property owners are encouraged to participate in these sessions to discuss or appeal their assessments. As stated, "Although not all property owners will receive a change notice, all property owners may meet with assessment staff to discuss their assessment during Open Book or appeal their assessment to the Board of Review."

The article emphasizes the importance of the upcoming Open Book sessions, which will run from April 29, 2024, through May 7, 2024. Property owners are reminded that participation in these sessions requires an appointment.

For those seeking further information or wishing to schedule an Open Book appointment, the Assessor’s Office can be contacted at (608) 755-3045, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Additionally, for inquiries regarding taxes or to request a physical viewing of the 2024 Assessment Roll, property owners are advised to reach out to the Clerk-Treasurer Office at (608) 755-3070 during the same business hours.

Residents of Janesville are reminded to stay informed and proactive in the assessment process, as market value changes will not be considered in this maintenance assessment roll.
