Bryan Steil, U.S. Congressman representing Wisconsin’s 1st district since 2019, addressed government funding and agricultural policy in a series of posts on April 29 and 30, 2026.
On April 29, Steil posted: “Government shutdowns don’t benefit American families. It’s past time to fund DHS.” He followed up later that day with another message regarding dairy legislation: “Support for the CURD Act growing! Let’s define natural cheese. Thanks @RepLangworthy!”
Continuing his advocacy for the CURD Act, Steil wrote on April 30: “Thanks for your leadership @RepMMM The CURD Act will support dairy farmers and improve consumer transparency”.
Steil has held his seat in Congress since replacing Paul Ryan in 2019 and has won multiple elections against Democratic challengers including Peter Barca in 2024, Ann Roe in 2022, Roger Polack in 2020, and Randy Bryce in 2018. These victories have established him as a consistent representative for Wisconsin’s 1st District.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is one of several federal agencies affected by funding lapses during government shutdowns, which can disrupt services important to American families. The CURD Act aims to clarify labeling standards for natural cheese products—a topic relevant to both producers and consumers within the state’s significant dairy industry.
