Committee on House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil discussed the ongoing investigation into Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue’s fraud prevention measures during an appearance on Fox News’ America’s Newsroom on April 15.

The topic is significant as it centers on the integrity of U.S. elections and the potential influence of foreign actors through online donation platforms. The investigation seeks to ensure that no foreign funds are entering U.S. elections, a core principle emphasized by lawmakers.

Steil said, “ActBlue was not forthcoming with my request for information in 2023.” He continued, “My biggest concern is that foreign individuals, foreign actors, foreign intelligence agencies could be funneling money into U.S. elections utilizing online donation platforms such as ActBlue.” Steil added, “There should be a core principle that no foreign funds are entering U.S. elections.”

According to a letter sent by Chairmen Steil, Jordan, and Comer to ActBlue CEO Regina Wallace-Jones on April 14, the Committees have demanded full compliance from ActBlue in their joint investigation and requested all previously sought materials along with additional documents and communications. This action followed recent reporting from the New York Times alleging that ActBlue may have intentionally misled Congress.

The House Administration Committee plays several key roles within Congress: it serves as a standing committee focused on administrative and operational matters according to the official website; oversees House operations, federal elections, and Capitol security according to the official website; forms part of joint committees on the Library and Printing according to the official website; exercises jurisdiction over federal elections nationwide according to the official website; has enhanced Capitol security measures following major incidents such as September 11 attacks and January 6 incident according to the official website; and played a key role in passing legislation like the Help America Vote Act in 2002 which provided funding for voting system improvements aimed at increasing accessibility and reducing fraud according to the official website.

Looking ahead, further developments may arise as Committees continue their inquiry into fundraising practices impacting election integrity.
