Beloit City Council Elects President, Vice President

Regina

Beloit City - WI issued the following announcement on April 19.

The Beloit City Council elected Regina Dunkin as president and Nancy Forbeck as vice president of the council during its organization meeting Tuesday evening.

“It is humbling to serve as president of the Beloit City Council,” Dunkin said. “I am grateful to continue in a leadership role with this extraordinary council.  I am truly passionate about Beloit, mentoring and encouraging others, especially youth to live out their dreams.

“Along with my fellow councilors, I look forward to collaboratively working with our city manager, staff, residents, business and area partners to keep on task with our goals and celebrate our accomplishments.

“I want us to be one community, working together to help our city grow and prosper. My greatest hope is to be a positive example and role model for our entire City of Beloit and throughout the State of Wisconsin, today and for generations to come.”

President Dunkin was the first African American woman to be president of Beloit City Council in 2019 and 2020; she was re-elected this year (2022).  She is the first African American woman to have served as chair of the Wisconsin State Public Defender Board. President Dunkin has also served on the School District of Beloit Board of Education. She is a director on the Wisconsin Housing Preservation Corporation Board and chair of the Greater Beloit Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors.

Vice President Forbeck previously served the community during her career at Visit Beloit and the Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce. She was first elected in 2017.

“I am honored to be elected as vice president,” Forbeck said. “We are going to make a good team, not just Regina and I, our whole council. I am just thrilled about all of this.”

The selection of the president and vice president occurred after City Councilors Kevin Day, Markese Terrell, Kevin Leavy, and Dunkin were sworn into office to serve their upcoming two-year term.
