The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and the City of Janesville invite you to a Community Engagement Forum (Public Involvement Meeting) to learn about and discuss the planned reconstruction of US 51/Center Ave from Nicolet Street to Court Street (Five Points Intersection). The meeting will follow an open-house format. Attendees may stop in at their convenience and view exhibits, meet with project staff, ask questions, and provide feedback. WisDOT and the City encourage property and business owners, interested citizens, and other stakeholders to attend the meeting and discuss potential impacts on this urban corridor.

 Date Thursday, July 13
 Time 5 to 6 p.m.
Location Dr. Daniel Hale WIlliams Rock County Resource Center, Room J1020

1717 Center Avenue, Janesville, WI 53546

The US 51/Center Avenue improvements are approximately 1.4 miles in length and extend from Nicolet Street to Court Street. The purpose of the reconstruction project is to:

  • Replace deteriorating pavement,
  • Improve pedestrian accommodations,
  • Upgrade traffic signal equipment,
  • Improve signal visibility,
  • Replace old water main pipes,
  • Extend the life of several bridge structures,
  • Improve the overall operations and safety of the roadway
The majority of Center Avenue will be constructed in 2024. However, a segment of US 51, from the Union Pacific Railroad bridge to Grand Avenue and the Five Points intersection, will be constructed in 2025. A road closure with a detour route is currently proposed. The detour route will utilize WIS 11, I-39/90, and US 14. Janesville transit buses will be detoured locally around the work zone. Access to local businesses and residents will be maintained. Temporary and permanent real estate acquisitions will be necessary for these improvements.

Additional information can be found on WisDOT's project website.

The meeting facility is wheelchair accessible. Deaf or hard of hearing persons needing assistance may contact Jim Simpson via the Wisconsin Telecommunication Relay System (dial 711). To allow for arranging assistance, please call no later than three working days prior to the meeting.
