Janesville, WI - The Start Smart Basketball program will kick off in January, offering parents an opportunity to teach their children the fundamentals of the sport. Aimed at children aged 4 to 6, this six-week instructional class will cover essential skills such as dribbling, ball handling, passing, catching, shooting, and running.
"The Start Smart Basketball program is a fantastic way for parents to introduce their young children to the world of basketball," said John Smith, the director of the Janesville Recreation Division. "By working alongside their kids, adults can actively participate in the learning process and help develop the basic motor skills necessary for playing the sport."
The program is designed to prepare youth for organized sports while using safe, fun, and age-appropriate equipment. It aims to remove any fear of competition and the worry of getting hurt, allowing young participants to learn confidently.
To participate in the Start Smart Basketball program, both parents and children are encouraged to dress in activewear. Registration can be completed online on the City's website or in person at the Recreation Division office in City Hall. The program fee is $45, and the deadline for registration is set for Friday, December 29.
"The Start Smart Basketball program provides a nurturing environment for children to learn the basics of basketball in a fun and safe manner," said Sarah Johnson, a parent who enrolled her child in the program last year. "It's a great opportunity for kids to develop their coordination, teamwork, and confidence."
For any inquiries or further information about the program, interested individuals can contact the Janesville Recreation Division at (608) 755-3030.
