On Thursday, February 8, 2024, Jack Combs retired after over 32 years of service to the City of Janesville. Combs, who joined the City team in 1992, began his career in the Operations Division of the Department of Public Works. Reflecting on his journey, Combs attributed his decision to work in public service to his peers and his love for working outside.

Over the years, Combs transferred to the City's Parks Division, where he held various positions, covering every level of the Operator role. His dedication and skills made him an integral part of the parks system, earning him the nickname "Jack of all trades." Colleagues often commended Combs for his contribution to the successful rebuild of Janesville's beloved CAMDEN Playground.

When asked about his favorite part of the job, Combs expressed his enthusiasm for construction and the opportunity to work on different projects. "Just being in construction and learning more about different projects," he said. Combs always looked forward to coming to work and genuinely loved what he did.

As Combs bids farewell to his professional career, he looks forward to enjoying his well-deserved retirement. He plans to spend his time outdoors, engaging in activities like hunting, fishing, and camping. Combs also intends to travel with his wife and cherish moments with his grandchildren.

Expressing his gratitude, Combs thanked his colleagues on the City team, saying, "Thank you for hiring me back in the day." The City of Janesville recognizes and appreciates Combs' dedication and contribution to the community over the past 32 years. They extend their heartfelt thanks to him for his service.
