A Community Engagement Forum has been scheduled for the Fisher Creek Trail project in Janesville. The forum will take place on February 28, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Parker High School. This event aims to provide an opportunity for community members to learn about and discuss the project.

The Fisher Creek Trail project will be carried out in two phases. The first phase, from W. Court Street to Dartmouth Drive, involves the construction of a 10-foot-wide paved off-road trail spanning approximately 0.80 miles. The alignment of the trail will start at the existing path north of W. Court Street and extend along Austin Road to Dartmouth Drive. The project will also include a trail connection to Greenway Point Drive. The design for this phase will be completed by the consulting firm Batterman, and construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2025. Funding for this phase comes from the federally funded Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) administered by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

The second phase of the Fisher Creek Trail project, from Rockport Road to W. Court Street, will also involve the construction of a 10-foot-wide paved off-road trail, covering a distance of approximately 0.62 miles. This phase will be located within the City right-of-way, with a bike trail easement along Fisher Creek. The design for this phase will be handled in-house by the City of Janesville, and construction is scheduled to start in the spring of 2025. Funding for this phase comes from the state-funded Stewardship Project administered by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

During the Community Engagement Forum, attendees will have the opportunity to view project displays and engage in discussions with representatives from the City of Janesville and the consulting firm. The session will begin with a brief presentation, providing an overview of the project. This will be followed by an open forum where community members can ask questions and express any concerns they may have.

To ensure accessibility, the meeting site is wheelchair accessible. Residents in need of a sign language interpreter can request one by contacting project staff through the Wisconsin Telecommunication Relay System. Further accommodations such as interpreters, translators, materials in alternate formats, or other assistance can be arranged by contacting Thomas Ballweg at (608) 373-6070 or via email at ballwegt@janesvillewi.gov.

The Community Engagement Forum for the Fisher Creek Trail project is an important opportunity for the residents of Janesville to learn more about the upcoming trail development and provide their input. It is encouraged that all interested community members attend this event to contribute to the planning and implementation of this significant project.
