The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has announced that the US 51 / Center Avenue roadway improvements project will commence on Monday, March 18. According to the project details, Center Avenue will be closed to through traffic from Nicolet Street to Court Street, with specific detours in place. The Court Street intersection, however, will remain accessible throughout the construction period.
"Stage 1 of the project will involve single-lane, two-way traffic crossing the Rock River bridge between Rockport Road and Delavan Drive," stated the WisDOT announcement. Additionally, Delavan Drive will remain open for east and west cross traffic at all times during Stage 1, while Rockport Road will only be accessible on the east leg.
Pedestrian accommodations have also been outlined for Stage 1, with pedestrians being directed to the east side of Center Avenue and provided access through the work zone at various intersections on traversable surfaces.
For further information and updates on the project, individuals are encouraged to visit the WisDOT project website at projects.511wi.gov/us51-janesville/. Questions regarding the construction project can be directed to Colten Tuescher at 608-751-0284 or ctuescher@rhbatterman.com.
In light of the construction on Center Avenue, the Janesville Transit System (JTS) has announced significant detours for several bus routes and the temporary closure of certain bus stops. The affected bus stops will be relocated to alternate locations to minimize disruptions to passengers.
JTS expressed gratitude to their passengers for their cooperation during the construction period and provided a contact number for individuals seeking further information: (608) 755-3150.
