The City of Janesville bids farewell to Council President Paul Benson, who recently concluded his final meeting after a significant tenure on the City Council. Benson's leadership journey, which began in 2019, saw him rise to the role of Council President in 2022.
Throughout his term, Council President Benson served on various committees and boards, showcasing his unwavering dedication to the city. His involvement in multiple initiatives, including the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, the Sustainable Janesville Committee, and others, left a lasting impact on Janesville's community.
One of the achievements Council President Benson is particularly proud of is the city's progress in adding housing units and reducing debt through strategic financial planning. Additionally, he oversaw key projects such as the construction of the Woodman’s Sports and Convention Center and securing funding for the Children’s Museum of Rock County.
Reflecting on his time in office, President Benson expressed gratitude towards his colleagues, stating, “Thank you to all the current and former council members, especially the ones who took the time to mentor me. I trust the six other councilmembers, and Larry Squire who’s coming on, to continue to do a great job.”
City Manager Kevin Lahner commended President Benson's contributions, saying, "I appreciate everything President Benson has done for the City; he’s done amazing work. It’s been great working with him.”
