The 2024 Sustainable Living Fair is set to take place on April 27 at the Hedberg Public Library in Janesville. The event, organized by the Sustainable Janesville Committee and the library, will feature a variety of activities and presentations focused on sustainability.
The fair, which is free and open to the public of all ages, will host 20 local organizations and businesses showcasing sustainable products and community projects. Attendees can expect hands-on learning experiences and activities for children.
Among the highlighted activities at the fair are presentations by local experts on different sustainability-themed topics. The schedule includes talks by various speakers throughout the event.
The Rock County Public Health Department will kick off the presentations at 10:15 a.m. with a session on "Small Steps Toward Sustainable Eating." Following them, the Janesville Urban Forest Alliance will provide information on "Tree Selection & Planting" at 10:50 a.m.
At 11:25 a.m., Bob McCallister from UW-Whitewater at Rock County will present on "What's Going on With Climate Change? What Can I Do About It?" This will be followed by a presentation from Suzelle Lynch of the Upcycled Cloth Collective on "Clothes, Textiles, and Climate Change" at 12:00 p.m. The final presentation of the day will be delivered by Brent Sutherland from Rock County on "Sustainability Efforts in Rock County" at 12:35 p.m.
In addition to the presentations, the fair will feature a range of exhibitors promoting sustainability, including the Citizen's Climate Lobby of Janesville, the Green-Rock Audubon Society, and the Sierra Club, among others.
