The City of Janesville will join communities nationwide in “lighting the night” for fallen firefighters by displaying red lights in their honor. The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation began the tradition of Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters to honor and remember the sacrifice of America’s fallen fire heroes. Public buildings, landmarks, and homes are encouraged to light their facilities in red colors beginning on the evening of May 1, through the end of National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, Sunday, May 5.

In Janesville, the East Milwaukee Street Bridge, Court Street Bridge, and Blain Gilbertson Family Heritage Pedestrian Bridge over the Rock River will display red lights, along with Fire Station #1 (303 Milton Ave.).

"The City invites members of the community to help honor these heroes by changing their home and business lights to red from May 1 to 5."

For questions, contact the Janesville Fire Department at (608) 755-3050.
