The Friends of Oak Hill Chapel and the Oak Hill Cemetery Preservation Society have announced plans to host an open house at the Oak Hill Chapel on Saturday, May 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The chapel, locally known as the Jewel on the Hill, is recognized for its Neo-Gothic architecture and solid limestone masonry.

The open house aims to educate the community about this historic building. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a walking tour of the cemetery. The guided tour, which costs $5 per person, will last approximately 60 minutes and will commence at 11:30 a.m. The tour will feature stories from World War II and the Civil War.

Additionally, baked goods courtesy of Hailey’s Sweets & Treats will be available for purchase during the event. A silent auction is also scheduled to take place. All proceeds generated from this event will be directed towards ongoing restoration efforts for both the chapel and cemetery.

In 2008, ownership of Oak Hill Cemetery and Chapel was transferred to the City of Janesville. Recognizing that repairs were needed, a group of community members established Friends of Oak Hill Chapel in 2013 with an aim to fundraise and organize restoration activities for this historic building.
