Town Square Gran Prix returns as part of annual bike race in Janesville

The City of Janesville will once again partner with the Janesville Velo Club to host the Town Square Gran Prix, presented by Blain’s Farm & Fleet. This event marks the commencement of the 15th Annual Tour of America’s Dairyland Bike Race and is scheduled for Thursday, June 13, 2024, in downtown Janesville.

Attendees can expect live race audio from the Start-Finish line throughout the course. Local restaurants and pubs will offer food and drink specials. Additionally, there will be entertainment, family-friendly activities, kids’ activities, a DJ, live music, and food trucks at the Town Square.

Several downtown streets will be closed to vehicular traffic from 5 a.m. on Thursday, June 13 until 1 a.m. on Friday, June 14. Sidewalks will remain open for pedestrian access to local businesses and downtown areas. Designated crosswalks will allow pedestrians to reach businesses located within the bike route.

The following streets will be closed:

East-West Streets:

- Milwaukee Street (North High Street to North Main Street)

- Dodge Street (North High St to Rock River)

- Court Street (South High Street to South Main Street)

North-South Streets:

- Jackson Street (McKinley Street to West Wall Street)

- Franklin Street (East Court Street to West Wall Street)

- River Street (East Court Street to W Wall Street)

- South Water Street (E Court St to East Milwaukee St)

A detailed map of street closures and pedestrian crosswalk locations is available. The City advises drivers to follow posted detours or seek alternate routes.

The Janesville Police Department reminds residents that there will be no parking on the course on race day. Vehicles must be moved by Wednesday evening. “No parking” signs will be posted around 5:00 p.m. For further information on road closures, contact Operations Superintendent Ethan Lee at leee@ci.janesville.wi.us or call (608) 755-3102.

JTS Routes Affected by Town Square Gran Prix

Several JTS bus routes will use detours during road closures:

Outbound:

- Milton Ave., Nightside Milton Ave.: west on McKinley, north on High, east on Centerway

- W. Court St.: resumes regular route at Centerway and Franklin

- BJE County Loop: resumes regular route at Centerway and Parker Drive

- Milwaukee St.: resumes regular route at Milwaukee and Ringold

Inbound routes follow reverse order detours.

Temporary bus stops are available at Centerway and Main for riders along affected routes. Riders needing access near Garden Court Apartments or Rock County Courthouse should use designated intersections or inform drivers for arrangements.

Wright Rd., Nightside East:

Outbound: south on River St., east on Racine St.

Routes resume regular paths at Racine and Main.

Inbound follows reverse order detour.

No service to Hedberg Public Library; alternative stops provided.

Nightside West:

Inbound follows usual path until Jackson & Centerway; then west on Centerway, south on High St., east on McKinley.

All bus stops in downtown Janesville along Main and Milwaukee Streets are closed during this event.
