Janesville opens compost site for storm debris after tornado

On the evening of Saturday, June 22, a reported tornado touched down on the south side of the City of Janesville. This weather event caused considerable damage to structures and infrastructure in the area. Due to the number of fallen trees, brush, and other debris, the City will open the Compost Site & Clean Fill Facility at 525 Black Bridge Road on Sunday, June 23, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The facility will be open free of charge to Janesville residents on Sunday. To verify residency, they should bring an ID that displays their address. Regular disposal rates will return to the facility on Monday. To view a list of waste accepted at the Compost Site & Clean Fill Facility, visit janesvillewi.gov/compost.

The City's Sanitary Landfill at 525 Black Bridge Road will open on Monday, June 24, at 8 a.m.
