On the evening of Saturday, June 22, an EF-2 tornado touched down on the south side of the City of Janesville. With peak wind gusts of 115 miles per hour, this weather event caused considerable damage to structures and infrastructure in the impacted areas.

Due to the number of fallen trees, brush, and other debris, the City Compost Site & Clean Fill Facility at 201 Black Bridge Road will be open free of charge to Janesville residents through Saturday, June 29. Residents should bring an ID that displays their address to verify residency. The site's hours and a list of accepted materials are available at janesvillewi.gov/compost.

The City's Sanitary Landfill, located at 525 Black Bridge Road, is also open free of charge to residents disposing of storm-related damage. The landfill's hours and a list of accepted materials are available at janesvillewi.gov/landfill. The City is asking residents with non-storm-related materials to refrain from using the landfill to allow those in need to access the facility.

Of note, neither facility accepts asphalt shingles. Residents looking to recycle asphalt shingles may go to Badger Materials Recycling. For a list of that facility's hours and fees, visit badgermaterialsrecycling.com.
