On the evening of Saturday, June 22, an EF-2 tornado touched down on the south side of the City of Janesville. With peak wind gusts of 115 miles per hour, this weather event caused considerable damage to structures and infrastructure in the impacted areas.

City crews will soon begin deploying to collect tree and brush debris for residential properties along the tornado's path. The City has included a map of this priority collection area below.

Residents needing removal assistance should place tree and brush debris on the public right-of-way of their yard near the roadway. City crews will not remove tree and brush debris from yards outside the public right-of-way. Residents are encouraged to leave four to eight-foot-long branches to facilitate collection. The City anticipates debris collection operations to continue through July 3, at which point the City will reassess the need. Residents in the collection area should park off-street during this time to enable safe and effective operations.

The City will not pick up structural debris or other solid waste as part of its response efforts. Residents with this type of debris may visit the City's Sanitary Landfill. The facility's hours of operation and list of accepted materials are at janesvillewi.gov/landfill. To aid in timely removal, the City is asking residents to continue to bring tree and brush debris to the Compost Site as they can; hours for that facility are available at janesvillewi.gov/compost. The City has waived storm-related disposal fees for residents at both facilities through Saturday, June 29. Residents must show ID to prove residency.

Trash and recycling operations will continue as regularly scheduled. However, some ancillary City services will be delayed during storm response.

Residents can find additional information on available resources at janesvillewi.gov/news.
