Today, the House of Representatives approved legislation co-led by Congressman Bryan Steil (WI-01), known as H.R. 8753. The bill mandates the United States Postal Service (USPS) to assign unique ZIP Codes to specific communities.

Communities in Wisconsin and other states face issues such as misdirected mail, delays in emergency response times, increased insurance rates, confusion over local taxes and tax rebates, polling place uncertainties, incorrect jury summonses, and community identity problems that negatively affect local governments, landlords, and businesses.

The proposed legislation aims to address these complications by aligning ZIP Codes with municipal boundaries. Congressman Steil highlighted the significance of this measure on the House Floor this week.

“After hearing from residents and community leaders in Mount Pleasant, Somers, Franklin, and Caledonia about their frustrations with mail delivery mix-ups caused by outdated ZIP code boundaries, I was pleased to help lead legislation to help,” said Steil. “This commonsense legislation instructs USPS to simplify and modernize these boundaries, saving many Wisconsin residents from needless headaches. We took a step forward today to solve this issue by passing this bill in the House, and I look forward to its consideration in the Senate.”
