As part of the Janesville Park and Open Space Plan, the City of Janesville has acquired riverfront property at 533 North Main Street. The city plans to utilize the 1.7-acre site to provide river access and extend the Riverwalk corridor between Traxler Park and downtown. The purchase will expand public greenspace and ensure that the Rock River remains accessible for community enjoyment.

The property at 533 N. Main Street is within Catalytic Site 3 in the ARISE Plan, which envisions meeting current and future recreational activity and tourism demands.

“Acquisition of this property has been in the City’s various plans for years,” Parks Director Cullen Slapak stated. “It’s a great accomplishment to finally have the property in City ownership.”

City ownership of the site will provide greater public access to the river, promote recreational opportunities, and protect environmentally sensitive areas, ensuring preservation for future generations.
