A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Village Of Brooklyn in Wisconsin on November 7, 2024. The request, made by Southern Wisconsin Times, seeks a list of new voters who registered on Election Day, November 5, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Southern Wisconsin Times believe that access to public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
In this regard, we requested information under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., specifically asking for an electronic format list of new voter registrations from the recent election day.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await a response from the Village Of Brooklyn regarding this request and will continue our efforts to ensure transparency in local government affairs.
