Rock County Board Chair Kevin Leavy is inviting individuals to express their interest in joining the Rock County Board of Health. According to state law, public members of the Board must demonstrate an interest or competence in public or community health, including healthcare professionals. The Board aims to reflect the community's diversity.

The Board of Health plays a critical role in advancing public health by providing policy supervision to the Rock County Public Health Department. This aligns with the department’s vision that everyone in Rock County should have an opportunity to reach their full health potential.

Responsibilities of the Board, as outlined in Wis. Stats. 251.04, include ensuring enforcement of state public health statutes, assessing public health needs, advocating for necessary services, developing policies that encourage local involvement and commitment, and promoting equitable distribution of resources.

Residents interested in serving as community representatives on the Board are encouraged to submit their applications by March 14, 2025. Applications can be submitted through an online portal available on the Rock County website at https://www.co.rock.wi.us/residents/join-acommittee or by navigating through the "Residents" section on the website.

The Board consists of nine members, including five public members whose terms are expiring. Newly appointed members will serve two-year terms starting April 1. The Board meets monthly on the first Wednesday at 6 p.m., with meetings currently held in a hybrid format at the Health Department’s Janesville location.
