City Thanks Michael Bachmeyer for Over Ten Years of Service

Mbh

City Of Janesville issued the following announcement on Feb 3

On Monday, February 1, 2022, Assistant Transit Director Michael Bachmeyer officially retired after over ten years of service to the City of Janesville.

Originally from Minnesota, Bachmeyer came to Janesville with his family in 1992. He worked in the community in pastoral care and nonprofit organizations before his employment with the City. From 2007 to 2011, he volunteered for the City as a member of the Community Development Authority (CDA), serving as a Vice Chair and Chair of the CDA.

Ready for a shift in life, Bachmeyer came to the Janesville Transit System (JTS) in August 2011 as a Part-Time Bus Driver. Staff quickly recognized his ability and service-oriented perspective, and he became a Full-Time Bus Driver in May 2013. JTS acknowledged Bachmeyer's performance further, promoting him to Assistant Transit Director in May 2018. Over his time in that role, he brought several improvements to JTS, including bus stop only service, automatic vehicle location, and safety enhancements like the installation of driver safety barriers.

Bachmeyer was an essential member of the JTS team that designed the City's new fleet of buses. Lending his expertise and diligence, he helped guarantee efficient operations and a safe and quality rider experience aboard the new buses.

In thanking Bachmeyer, Transit Director Rebecca Smith spoke to his ability to creatively problem-solve, foster an environment of trust and respect, and apply his operational expertise, noting that "his fingerprints are all over" the new, redesigned JTS buses.

Bachmeyer further exhibited his dedication to the community through his service on numerous committees, including the City Health Advisory Committee, the Rock County Transportation Coordinating Committee, the JTS Hiring Advisory Committee, and the JTS Safety Team.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he served as a Contact Tracer and member of the Planning Section in the City's Emergency Operations Center (EOC). City Planner Duane Cherek, who worked alongside Bachmeyer in the City's EOC, added that "Mike's calm and collected character is exactly what you need in a crisis."

Bachmeyer looks forward to spending more time with his family in retirement. He and his wife Vicki share three children and seven grandchildren. The pair will also travel more, visiting national parks across the country and enjoying the outdoors. Bachmeyer is community-minded and plans to remain involved with Faith Community Church and other local service organizations, volunteering his time and noted talents.

"I appreciate being a part of this team," said Bachmeyer during his final day on the job. "I so very much appreciate all the friendships I've made."

The City of Janesville would like to thank Michael Bachmeyer for over ten years of dedicated service to his community, the Janesville Transit System, and the City of Janesville.
