The City of Janesville is nearing the adoption of its 2024 Annual Budget, with a tax rate drop on the horizon for property owners. On Monday, November 13, the City Council amended the proposed budget, following the Department of Revenue certification of the City’s share of refunded property taxes, a necessary step to finalize the property tax levy.
Despite historic inflation and continued inequities in state shared revenue distribution, the City’s proposed budget maintains service levels and infrastructure investment, while minimizing property tax and user fee increases. The expected total tax rate of $5.98 signifies at 28.8% decrease from the prior year’s adopted budget.
The proposed budget has a total tax levy of $44,795,384. The total year over year increase in the municipal property tax rate represents a $5.83 per month, or $69.93 per year, increase for homeowners with the median tax assessed value of $222,100.
The City Council will consider approval of the proposed 2024 Annual Budget at its meeting on Monday, November 27 at 6.p.m in City Hall.
