The City of Janesville, in collaboration with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), is planning to reconstruct Ruger Avenue between South Randall Avenue and South Lexington Drive. The project, known as the Ruger Avenue Reconstruction Project, is a federally funded STP-Urban project administered by WisDOT. The project, which spans approximately 0.45 miles, aims to improve the pavement structure, including curb and gutter, marked bicycle lanes, sidewalk replacements, and storm sewer.
To engage the community and gather feedback on the proposed project, a Community Engagement Forum has been scheduled. The forum will take place on Wednesday, January 17, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Cafeteria in Craig High School (401 S. Randall Ave.). The event will commence with a brief presentation to provide attendees with an overview of the project.
During the forum, representatives from the City of Janesville and the design team will be present to address any questions, explain exhibits, and offer additional information about the project. The city is particularly interested in hearing from the community regarding parking needs along the corridor. To facilitate this discussion, parking within the project limits will be temporarily removed from one side of the street.
It is important to note that the forum aims to be accessible to all members of the community. Wheelchair accessibility will be provided at the meeting site, and residents who require a sign language interpreter can request one through the Wisconsin Telecommunication Relay System at 711 or 1(800) 947-3529. Additionally, individuals needing an interpreter, translator, materials in alternate formats, or other accommodations to access the event can contact Karissa Chapman at (608)-755-3163 or email chapmank@janesvillewi.gov.
The City of Janesville and WisDOT are committed to ensuring that the Ruger Avenue Reconstruction Project meets the needs of the community. By holding the Community Engagement Forum, they are providing an opportunity for residents to voice their opinions, ask questions, and contribute to the decision-making process. This collaboration between the city and its residents will help create a well-informed and inclusive project that addresses the community's concerns and priorities.
