The City of Janesville will be conducting a ballot placement drawing today at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. This drawing is in preparation for the upcoming city council election and the February primary. The Janesville Clerk-Treasurer, Lorena Stottler, will be present to witness and certify the process.

According to Wisconsin state law, a drawing of lots is required to determine the order of candidates' names on the ballot. The candidates' names will be printed on uniform slips and placed in a box for the drawing. The order in which the names are drawn will determine their placement on the ballot.

The six candidates who have been certified to appear on the ballot for the April 2, 2024 election are Aaron Burdick, Joshua Erdman, Matthew Gonzalez, Billy Ray McCoy, Larry Squire, and Paul Williams. Their names will be included in the drawing, and the order in which they are selected will determine their placement on the ballot.

It is important to note that the filing deadline for candidacy was on January 5, 2024, at 5 p.m. This ensures that all candidates who are participating in the election are accounted for.

In addition to the city council election, there will also be a Spring Primary on February 20, 2024. While the City Council and School Board elections do not require a primary, the County Board of Supervisors does. In Janesville, District 22 and District 27 will each have three candidates running. The top two candidates from each district will move on to the April Spring Election.

The candidates for District 22, in alphabetical order, are Wes Davis, Denetta Flamingo, and Michael Schwarz. For District 27, the candidates are Tom Brien, Spencer Zimmerman, and Billy Ray McCoy.

Residents of Janesville who are unsure about their voting status can verify if they need to participate in the February Primary, find their consolidated polling place, and confirm their voter registration by visiting www.myvote.wi.gov.

For any questions or concerns regarding voting, residents can contact the City Clerk-Treasurer's Office at 755-3070.

With the ballot placement drawing taking place today, candidates and voters alike are eagerly awaiting the outcome. The drawing will determine the order in which candidates' names are listed on the ballot, potentially influencing voters' decisions. As the election season progresses, residents are encouraged to stay informed about the candidates and exercise their right to vote in both the February Primary and the April Spring Election.
