The City of Janesville recently conducted a ballot placement drawing to determine the order of candidates' names on the upcoming spring election ballot. The drawing, which took place on January 8th at the Council Chambers in City Hall, was witnessed and certified by the Janesville Clerk-Treasurer, Lorena Stottler.

According to Wisconsin state law, a drawing of lots is required to establish the order of candidates' names on the ballot. The names of the candidates were printed on uniform slips and placed in a box for the drawing. The order in which the names were drawn will determine their placement on the ballot.

The six candidates who have been certified to appear on the April 2, 2024 election ballot for the City Council seats are as follows:

- Aaron Burdick

- Mathew Gonzalez

- Paul L. Williams

- Larry Squire

- Joshua Erdman

- Billy Ray McCoy

These candidates will appear on the ballot in the order in which their names were drawn.

The filing deadline for candidacy was January 5, 2024, and these six individuals successfully met the requirements to be included on the ballot.

In addition to the City Council election, there is also a Spring Primary scheduled for February 20, 2024. It is important to note that while the City Council and School Board elections do not require a primary, the County Board of Supervisors does.

There are two districts in Janesville, District 22 and District 27, that have three candidates each running for office. The top two candidates with the most votes in each district will move forward to the April Spring Election.

The candidates for District 22, in alphabetical order, are:

- Wes Davis

- Denetta Flamingo

- Michael Schwarz

For District 27, the candidates are:

- Tom Brien

- Spencer Zimmerman

- Billy Ray McCoy

Residents of Janesville who are eligible to vote in the February Primary can verify their voting status, find their consolidated polling place, and confirm their voter registration by visiting www.myvote.wi.gov.

For any questions regarding the voting process, residents are encouraged to contact the City Clerk-Treasurer's Office at 755-3070.

This ballot placement drawing and the upcoming spring election are important events for the City of Janesville, as they provide an opportunity for residents to participate in the democratic process and have a say in the future of their community.
