The City of Janesville has declared a winter weather emergency scheduled to begin at 3 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024. This declaration means that all parked vehicles must be removed from City streets until snow and ice control operations are complete. To avoid receiving a parking ticket, it is crucial for residents to move their vehicles prior to 3 a.m. and keep them off City streets until 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 13.

According to the forecast, snow accumulations of 3 to 10 inches are expected to start early Friday morning and continue through Saturday morning. Additionally, high winds are anticipated on Friday, and temperatures will drop significantly by Sunday, resulting in very cold conditions.

To efficiently and effectively clear the snow and ice, City crews will prioritize maintaining arterial and collector streets throughout the duration of the snowfall. All other streets will be plowed once the snowfall has ceased. It is essential for residents to cooperate by removing all parked vehicles from City streets. This will maximize the effectiveness of snow and ice removal operations while minimizing safety issues.

During this winter weather emergency, residents are advised to park their vehicles in their garages or driveways if possible. However, if a garage or driveway is unavailable, parking is permitted in any municipal parking lot. The City has designated several municipal parking lots for this purpose, including the East Wall Street Lot at E Wall Street & N Parker Drive, City Hall Lot at W Wall Street & N Jackson Street, S High Street Lot at W Court Street & S High Street, Hedberg Public Library Lot on Water Street, River/Union Street Lot at S River Street & Union Street, and the N Parker Drive Parking Ramp at N Parker Drive and E Wall Street. It is important to note that vehicles must be removed from these parking lots after the emergency has ended to facilitate snow and ice clearance by City crews.

To deter residents from parking on the street during the winter weather emergency, fines of $50 will be imposed on violators. The Police Department may begin issuing tickets before snow and ice control operations commence.

For additional information and updates regarding the winter weather emergency, Janesville residents are encouraged to visit the City's Snow & Ice Control webpage or contact the Snow Hotline at (608) 755-SNOW. In case of problems or concerns, the City Services Center can be reached at (608) 755-3110.

Stay safe and be prepared for the upcoming winter weather emergency in Janesville.
