Born Learning Trail Comes to Fourth Ward Park, Additional Park Improvements Planned

20

City of Janesville issued the following announcement on Sept. 23

On Wednesday, September 22, the City of Janesville partnered with the United Way Blackhawk Region and community volunteers to construct a new Born Learning Trail at Fourth Ward Park, 410 W. Racine Street. This early learning installation allows adults to take young children on an interactive, outdoor learning experience through the park. The trail features colorful signs with engaging educational activities that help build curiosity and confidence in young learners.

The project was a part of the United Way’s Day of Caring service event. Volunteers from the City and other area organizations helped paint the trail’s sidewalks. The new amenity is the second of its kind in Janesville, with the first Born Learning Trail installed last year at Bond Park, 201 N. Oakhill Avenue. More information on these interactive features is available on the United Way Blackhawk Regions website at www.liveunitedbr.org/born-learning-trails.

“The City is excited to partner with the United Way to kick-off its investments into Fourth Ward Park with the installation of the Born Learning Trail,” said City of Janesville Housing Services Director Kelly Bedessem.

The trail comes in advance of additional improvements planned for Fourth Ward Park. The City’s oldest park, established in 1836, will soon see a new playground structure, pavilion, and basketball shooting court installation. The City will fund these upcoming enhancements through federal Community Development Block Grants, with construction beginning this fall.
