Statement on the Waukesha Christmas Parade Tragedy & Holiday Lighted Parade Update

6

City of Janesville issued the following announcement on Nov. 24

The City of Janesville extends its sincere sympathy to all those affected, injured, and killed in last Sunday's tragic incident at the Waukesha Christmas Parade. The City wishes to offer its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of those impacted.

In the wake of the tragedy in Waukesha, City staff has reevaluated this year's Janesville's Jolly Jingle Holiday Light Parade. After careful consideration, the City has decided to hold the parade as scheduled on Saturday, December 4, 2021, beginning at 6 p.m. In contacting parade participants, entrants overwhelmingly expressed their desire to continue with this year's event.

Event safety and security are always a priority for the City. As in years past, Janesville's Jolly Jingle and the Janesville Police Department will continue to work cooperatively to assure the community can safely join together in celebration of the holiday spirit. Staff will continue to evaluate parade plans and ensure additional security measures are in place.

In this season of peace and joy, the City asks the public to keep the entire Waukesha community in their thoughts as they continue to mourn and heal.
