We hope you’ll join the Health & Healing and Justice & Rights Career Channels over Zoom for a conversation with Beloit graduate Dr. Merideth Smith’05, Director of Clinical Services at PSIMED, a mental health services provider in South Charleston, West Virginia. Dr. Smith will discuss her career path and her profession as a psychologist working in the corrections field. At the end of her presentation, Dr. Smith will take questions from attendees and offer practical advice for those interested in this career path.

 About Dr. Merideth Smith’05

Merideth Smith, Ph.D. is the Director of Clinical Services and a psychologist for PSIMED Corrections in West Virginia. She graduated from Beloit College in 2005 with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Biology and Society. From there she worked with a group of researchers on a national project to design school based interventions focused on assessing and building resilience in children. Merideth obtained her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at West Virginia University in 2013 with a focus in aging and resiliency and suicide prevention with research training in the Departments of Psychology and Public Health. As part of her doctoral degree, she completed her internship in Geropsychology at the Veterans Administration Palo Alto Health Care System. She has presented at national conferences and published in peer review journals in the areas of behavioral interventions, the criminalization of mental illness aging and resiliency, and suicide prevention both in the community and the correctional system.
