The School District of Janesville has confirmed the appointment of Mr. Bryan Erskine, currently serving as the Senior IT Architect for Walworth County, as its new Director of Technology. Mr. Erskine will assume his new role on July 1, 2024, succeeding Dr. Robert Smiley who is set to retire at the conclusion of the current academic year.

Superintendent Mr. Mark Holzman praised Mr. Erskine's credentials, stating, "We were impressed with Bryan’s strong record of IT experience including on both the technical and leadership sides of the position." He further expressed confidence in Erskine's ability to bolster the district's already comprehensive technological infrastructure.

Mr. Erskine brings a wealth of experience to his new role. His past positions include serving as Director of Technology for both Clinton Community School District (for four years) and Belvidere Community Unit School District #100 (for one year). In addition to his IT expertise, he also spent eight years as a U.S. Navy Marine Corps hospital corpsman.

Erskine holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Network Communication and Management from DeVry University (2015), and a Master of Science degree in Information Communication and Technology from the University of Wisconsin-Stout (2018). He is also licensed by Wisconsin DPI as a library media specialist.

The hiring process was rigorous, with six applicants initially interviewed for the position. The pool was then narrowed down to three candidates who underwent a second round of interviews conducted by two separate teams comprising district staff and leadership.

Following this process, the School Board approved a recommendation from District Administration to offer Mr. Erskine a one-year contract for the 2024-25 school year commencing July 1, 2024. Under this contract, he will work 260 days per year with an annual salary of $140,000.
