Enrollment appointments are now open for children eligible to begin kindergarten in the School District of Janesville (SDJ) for the 2025-26 school year. Children who will turn five years old on or before September 1, 2025, and are not currently enrolled in SDJ's Pre-school for Janesville (P4J) or Early Childhood (EC) program, may enroll.
The enrollment process is conducted by appointment only at the Educational Services Center (ESC), located at 527 South Franklin Street in the New Student Enrollment office. Parents can schedule an appointment or ask questions by calling the New Student Enrollment office Monday through Friday at (608) 743-5072 or (608) 743-5153 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
According to state law, students entering kindergarten must be five years old or older on or before September 1, 2025. To enroll, parents or guardians need to bring several documents: the child's birth certificate as proof of age, proof of residency such as a utility bill or current lease to determine school assignment, immunization records for the child, and a photo ID of the parent or guardian.
For those seeking school transfer or placement within SDJ for incoming kindergarten students, requests should be submitted during the enrollment process. Non-residents of the School District of Janesville must apply for Open Enrollment between February 3, 2025, and April 30, 2025. Further details can be found at https://dpi.wi.gov/open-enrollment. Questions about transfers or open enrollment can be directed to Ms. Deen Hartley at (608) 743-5152.
