On Monday, May 20, 2024, the School District of Janesville (SDJ) will commence a significant project with a groundbreaking event at Parker High School. The occasion marks the start of construction for two new greenhouses, set to replace outdated facilities at both Parker and Craig High Schools. The construction projects are slated for completion by August 2024.
The greenhouse construction initiatives aim to provide learning environments that align more closely with industry standards. These enhancements will benefit the district's Agricultural Career and Technical Education programs. Additionally, the work will facilitate larger greenhouse/headhouse spaces, improving areas designated for instruction.
Funding for these buildings is sourced from the federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER) grant program, authorized under the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act. These funds come with specific usage rules and must be expended by September 30, 2024.
For this project, the District has formed partnerships with JP Cullen and Eppstein Uhen Architects (EUA), who will serve as construction manager and architect respectively.
The groundbreaking event will feature various stakeholders including: School District of Janesville School Board Commissioners, District Administrators, District Principals, City of Janesville representatives, District FFA students and Representatives from JP Cullen and EUA. Community Representatives are also expected to attend.
The event is scheduled to take place at 1:30 PM in the rear parking lot of Parker High School located at 3125 Mineral Point Ave., Janesville, WI 53548.
