Blackhawk Technical College will host its sixth annual Manufacturing Day in partnership with Southwest Wisconsin Workforce Development Board and Rock County 5.0. The event is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on local employers, education pathways and career opportunities.
This year’s MFG Day will take place from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the college’s Advanced Manufacturing Training Center in Milton. The event will host over 500 high school students from approximately ten school districts in Rock and Green counties to tour our programs and meet with more than 30 manufacturing partners from the Stateline Manufacturing Alliance (SMA).

“This event offers students a venue to learn about great career opportunities within our district and the ability to interact with employers. Being aware of the products that are locally produced and understanding the value of these manufacturers, creates a sense of pride within their communities,” said Greg Phillips, Manufacturing, Apprenticeship, Technology, and Transportation Dean at Blackhawk Technical College.
MFG Day is part of a national effort to inspire students to pursue careers in manufacturing. During the event, students will take tours of the AMTC facility, learn about manufacturing career pathways, and engage with local manufacturing employers to learn about specific careers. Students will also learn about options to get started while in high school, including Youth Apprenticeship, Internship, and Job Shadow programs.
After high school, students can take advantage of “earn and learn” models. Many students currently attending a manufacturing-related program at Blackhawk are sponsored by industry partners through Apprenticeships, Internships, and other Tuition Reimbursement programs.
Blackhawk’s aim is to bring more exposure to manufacturing education and career opportunities while highlighting our partnerships with local industry employers through the SMA.
Following the Manufacturing Day events, Blackhawk will be hosting a job fair from 2:30-4:30 p.m. that will be open to the public.
