Nursing Student Knew Blackhawk Was the Right Path
As a pharmacy technician for nearly a decade, Nicole Webnar interacted frequently with nurses who had attended Blackhawk and said they felt better equipped as nurses than some of their counterparts who attended other colleges.
“Everything I heard about the Nursing program at Blackhawk was positive,” she said.
Those encounters and a feeling that she was meant for a different career prompted Nicole to enroll at Blackhawk and pursue a career in nursing with aid from three scholarships through the Blackhawk Foundation: the Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship, the Dr. Gregg and Helen Dickinson Scholarship and the Nancy B. Parker Nursing Scholarship.
These scholarships mean someone believes in her and her future in nursing, she said.
Besides being local, Nicole found that the tuition at Blackhawk was much cheaper than other area schools, and she knew it would offer a more personalized experience and better access to instructors.
“It also provided me more time to focus on my studies and spend time with my family rather than worry about how I was going to pay for tuition,” she said.
With two little boys at home, Nicole had to learn how to balance school, homework and family life, which was not without its difficulties, but she learned to depend on her support system to make things work.
Planning to graduate in the spring, Nicole would like to stay local with her degree and give back to her community.
