In November of 2013, the City of Janesville was designated a Bird City Community through the Bird City Wisconsin organization. This year, Janesville has achieved “Sustained Flight” status for the 11th year in a row!

To be recognized by Bird City Wisconsin, a community must meet criteria spread across four categories:

  • Creating, protecting, and restoring bird habitat
  • Addressing threats to birds
  • Engaging people in birding and conservation
  • Encouraging sustainable practices
The mission of Bird City Wisconsin is to “make our communities healthy for birds...and people.” The local goal is to increase the healthy habitat for birds and to decrease the hazards they face.

The City of Janesville Parks Division would like to thank the local volunteers that made this designation possible by compiling the application materials and donating funds for the application fee.

For more information on Janesville Bird City efforts, please contact Bird City Committee Organizer Neil Deupree at deupreen@charter.net or at (608) 752-8342.
