The City of Janesville closed on and conveyed over three (3) acres of land that the Boys & Girls Club of Janesville requested be donated. The City-owned land includes lots between the Rock River and Delavan Drive, along the east side of South Jackson Street.

The Boys & Girls Club was also a recipient of a Pay it Forward grant from the City in the amount of $750,000.00. Along with the land and City grant, a capital campaign to raise additional funds will be utilized to construct a 35,000-square-foot facility. The new riverfront single-story facility will allow the community organization to triple its programming success in a more centrally located building.

The land was purchased over many years with the goal of commercial and recreational redevelopment opportunities along the river. This exciting project promotes redevelopment in the City’s south side by a local service-based organization while preserving public ownership of the riverfront for future community use. This new facility will not only provide much-needed additional services; it is also another project that highlights the continued growth and opportunity for additional investments communitywide.

The Boys & Girls Club provides a safe place for local youth with more affordable after-school and summer programs, resulting in academic achievement, healthy lifestyles, and character development. Rebecca Veium, Chief Executive Officer shared “The Boys & Girls Club of Janesville Board of Directors and staff are grateful for the City’s support. This partnership brings our vision of a new building to better serve our youth and community closer to fruition.”To find out more about this community initiative: https://www.bgcjanesville.org/about-our-campaign/
