On Sunday, January 14, 2024, Kenneth Pizzurro retired after over 20 years of service to the Janesville Fire Department (JFD) and the City of Janesville.
After graduating from Madison Area Technical College (MATC), Pizzurro started his career with the Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department. In 2003, he joined the JFD, where he held various positions, including roles as firefighter paramedic, hazardous materials technician, firefighter EMT, and motor pump operator.
The Fire Department would like to thank Mr. Pizzurro for his 20-year career with the department and wish him well in his next adventure in life.” Said Fire Chief Ponkauskas, “Congratulations and enjoy your retirement!”
When Pizzurro looks back on his career, he said the best part was “helping people. No matter how small of an issue, being the person to provide the assistance to someone in need is the greatest feeling.”
While he’ll miss providing help to citizens, Pizzurro said he’s looking forward to “not being woken up in the middle of the night.” And something he definitely won’t miss is eating meals prepared by bad cooks. “There were days I’d walk into the station and just know I would be ordering Jimmy Johns.”
With his new free time, Kenneth plans to work on remodeling his 1870’s home in Beloit, and after his son Samuel graduates college, he may move down South. “I can’t stand the snow,” Kenneth said, “I’m looking forward to being somewhere warm.”
Pizzurro also plans on spending a lot of time outside. “Turkey hunting, fly fishing, and just hanging out at the beach,” Kenneth said.
The City of Janesville would like to thank Kenneth Pizzurro for his more than 20 years of dedicated service to his community, the JFD, and the community!
