The Hedberg Public Library in Wisconsin has announced the opening of its Seed Library for the year, offering a variety of seeds for free to patrons. According to the library, no library card or check out is required, and visitors are encouraged to take what they need for their gardens and leave the rest for others to use.
"This year the Seed Library has over 2,000 packets of seeds in 60 varieties, including carrots, corn, beets, beans, pumpkins, and much more," stated the library staff. Additionally, Wisconsin planting guides are available in the Seed Library section to assist gardeners in achieving successful growth.
Funding for the Seed Library is made possible by The Friends of Hedberg Public Library, while the seeds themselves are provided by local partner, Cornerstone of Hope. Cornerstone of Hope, a non-profit organization, focuses on educating individuals about growing food and supporting families and communities through access to fresh produce.
"The seeds provided by Cornerstone of Hope aim to help individuals set up their own gardens through the 'Produce for Pantries' program, which encourages growing food for donation to local food pantries," highlighted a representative from the organization.
In addition to its own Seed Library, the Hedberg Public Library participates in the One Seed One Wisconsin program, featuring this year's seed "Melon - Cantaloupe - Pride of Wisconsin." Prairie Lakes Library System shares the selected seeds across all participating libraries.
The Seed Library is part of the Healthy at Hedberg initiative, which promotes health and wellness through various library resources, programs, and community partnerships. Visitors interested in exploring more offerings related to health and wellness are encouraged to visit the Health & Wellness page on the library's website.
