Mineral Point Avenue from Austin Road to Waveland Road will undergo street resurfacing between August 1 and August 5. The work is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, with potential extensions into Saturday and Monday if delayed by rain.

Drivers are advised to use alternative routes when possible and reduce speeds while driving through the work zone.

For further information on this project, please contact the Engineering Division at (608) 755-3162.

Streets will be posted with NO PARKING signs from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (Monday-Saturday). Residents parking on the street overnight should move their vehicles early in the morning. Garbage or recycling collection should proceed as normal.

The first step in the resurfacing process involves milling or grinding off the old street surface. During and after this process, traffic can still drive on the street, and residents will have access to their driveways. Caution is advised as equipment removes the surface layer from the pavement and loads it into trucks.

Asphalt paving follows the removal of the upper pavement layer. Prior to paving, “FRESH OIL” (a sticky liquid tack coat) is applied to bond the new pavement to the old pavement. Traffic should avoid driving on “FRESH OIL” if possible because it can be difficult to remove from vehicles and other surfaces. If driving on “FRESH OIL” is necessary, drivers should proceed slowly.

The asphalt paving process begins shortly after applying “FRESH OIL”. During paving operations, residents may not be able to leave their driveways while work is in progress at their location. Vehicles should be parked outside of the project area if there are concerns about accessing properties during paving operations. Paving will be completed in one day and can be driven on that evening, weather permitting.
