Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 3095, a bill co-led by Congressman Bryan Steil, aimed at updating and modernizing ZIP codes to align with current municipal boundaries. This measure is intended to address mail delays and other issues faced by communities in Wisconsin and across the United States.

The outdated ZIP codes have led to several challenges, including misdirected mail, delayed emergency services, higher insurance rates, confusion over local taxes and polling places, and incorrect jury summons. The bill directs the USPS to create ZIP codes that reflect current municipal boundaries to mitigate these problems.

Congressman Steil expressed his satisfaction with the bill's passage: “ZIP code boundaries that don’t match community boundaries cause needless headaches and frustration for families throughout Wisconsin; something I have heard from residents and community leaders in places like Mount Pleasant, Somers, Caledonia, Franklin, and Rochester.”

Mount Pleasant Village President David DeGroot commented on the longstanding issues caused by incorrect USPS ZIP code boundaries: “I’d like to thank Congressman Steil for his work moving this issue forward in the House and advocating for our community.”

Caledonia Village President Tom Weatherston also expressed gratitude: “I want to thank Congressman Steil and the House for standing up for Wisconsin families. The House’s work will help correct this longstanding issue and deliver real benefits to families in Caledonia.”
