Congressman Bryan Steil, representing Wisconsin's 1st Congressional District, has led the state's congressional delegation in requesting expedited federal assistance following severe flooding in the Milwaukee region. The delegation sent a letter to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) asking for a Joint Preliminary Damage Assessment (PDA), which is necessary to begin the process of establishing a Major Disaster Declaration and securing federal aid for recovery efforts.
Steil previously contacted both the White House and FEMA immediately after storms struck on August 10. He also sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem last week. According to Steil, “I remain committed to helping Wisconsin families affected by this disaster access available resources. Timely action is critical and I’m grateful for my colleagues’ support as we work with the Administration to quickly secure the resources necessary to help families in our community recover from this storm.”
The flooding occurred after historic rainfall on August 9 and 10. Following these events, Wisconsin declared a state of emergency on August 11, and requested FEMA assistance on August 13. On August 14, Steil joined other members of Congress in writing to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. The most recent letter was signed by every member of Wisconsin’s congressional delegation.
Bryan Steil has served as U.S. Representative since first winning election in 2018, when he defeated Randy Bryce with just over 54% of the vote. He was re-elected in subsequent cycles: defeating Roger Polack in 2020 with nearly 60% of votes, Ann Roe in 2022 with just over 54%, and Peter Barca in 2024 with similar margins.
