On September 5, Steil highlighted concerns about public transportation losses in Milwaukee County. He wrote, "I’m asking for answers to Milwaukee County Transit reportedly losing $4 million to fare evasion in 2024 alone. Read my letter to @SecDuffy https://t.co/wBonoT9Ue9".

Steil has represented Wisconsin’s 1st district since winning the seat in the 2018 general election against Randy Bryce. He subsequently secured re-election victories over Roger Polack in 2020, Ann Roe in 2022, and Peter Barca in 2024.
In each contest he maintained a majority vote share.
