As winter approaches, the School District of Janesville (SDJ) has issued reminders about its procedures for notifying families in case of school closures or delays due to inclement weather. The district aims to inform parents and guardians as early as possible, ideally the night before or by 6 a.m. on the day of a closure or delay.

The SDJ will communicate these decisions through multiple channels. Messages will be sent via phone calls, emails, and text messages using the SDJ messaging system. Additionally, information will be posted on the district's website and social media platforms. Local media outlets will also be notified.

Parents are urged to verify their contact details in the Infinite Campus system to ensure they receive notifications correctly. This is particularly important for those who have recently moved or changed phone numbers.

For real-time updates, families can visit the SDJ website homepage or Facebook page. Often, this information is available online before it reaches all contacts through phone or text notifications due to the large number of recipients.

In cases where a two-hour delay is implemented, middle and high schools will start at 10 a.m., while elementary schools will begin at 10:15 a.m. On such days, breakfast services will not be provided; however, lunch will still be available.

The school calendar includes allowances for some weather-related disruptions without affecting instructional hours significantly. The district allows for two "snow days" where no schoolwork is required from students. If additional inclement weather days occur beyond these two days, plans to make up missed instructional time will be communicated by SDJ.

State law mandates specific instructional hours that must be met by all Wisconsin school districts. More information about the SDJ calendar can be found on their official website.
