Beloit Memorial High School recently announced that its culinary students had the opportunity to showcase their skills at Blackhawk Technical College, under the guidance of Chef Hakim Salaam.

According to a Facebook post from the School District of Beloit, BACH Academy Hospitality pathway students were led by Chef Salaam as they prepared a full-course meal. "From knife skills to plating techniques, our Beloit Memorial students worked with diverse ingredients and culinary methods in BTC's professional kitchens," the district wrote. "These real-world experiences open doors to exciting career possibilities!" The district also expressed gratitude towards the school and Chef Salaam for providing the students with a memorable experience.

According to Beloit Memorial’s website, students on a career pathway take a series of classes designed to familiarize them with the nuances of potential careers. Music, digital media, and information technology are among the subjects offered by BACH Academy Pathways.

Milwaukee native Chef Salaam is a Culinary Arts and Hospitality instructor at Blackhawk Technical College with over 30 years of experience in the industry. According to the college, Salaam holds numerous certifications, awards, and degrees in education and food and beverage business management. His most significant caveat to preparing a meal that looks and tastes great is to keep ingredients "as close to their natural state as possible."
