The Board of Education for the School District of Janesville has approved the hiring of Rachel Bynum as the new Principal for Lincoln Elementary School. Bynum currently holds the position of Assistant Principal at Boggy Creek Elementary School within the School District of Osceola County in Kissimmee, Florida.

"Ms. Bynum has a strong record of educational leadership focused on instruction and academics, and she is compassionate with students, parents, and staff," said Mark Holzman, Superintendent for the School District of Janesville. "Her organizational and communication skills will serve her well in this role. She has a great track record of building successful relationships with students and families within the community she serves. We are excited to have her join the School District of Janesville."

Bynum's career in education began in 2006 as a third-grade teacher at Partin Settlement Elementary School in Kissimmee. She later served as a literacy coach from 2013 to 2017 before becoming an Assistant Principal in 2017 at Narcoossee Elementary. In 2024, she was appointed as Assistant Principal at Boggy Creek Elementary.

She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh, obtained in 2005, and a Master's Degree in Public Administration with a focus on Educational Leadership from the University of Central Florida, earned in 2013. Bynum also completed the School Principal Certification and Educational Leadership programs through the State of Florida Department of Education in 2022.

For the principal position at Lincoln Elementary, there were twenty-five applicants. Initial interviews were conducted by a team of three district administrators, narrowing the candidates to five. A second team of district leaders conducted further interviews and selected three candidates for final consideration. A group of six educators and leaders from Lincoln Elementary carried out the final round of interviews and recommended Bynum.

Bynum will replace the current Principal, Dr. Shawn Galvin, who is leaving to assume the role of Superintendent at the Parkview School District in Wisconsin. Bynum will begin her one-year contract on July 1, 2025. She will work 260 days per contract year, with a recommended salary of $115,000 for the 2025-2026 school year.
