City of Janesville announces free screening of 'Wonka' at Optimist Park
The City of Janesville Recreation Division invites the community to Optimist Park (4201 Ruger Ave.) for another edition of Movies in the Park. On Friday, August 16, the free program will screen the movie Wonka at dusk, approximately 8:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own blankets or lawn chairs. Pre-movie barrel rides will be available in the park starting at 7 p.m., and concessions will be available for purchase.

Janesville prepares for partisan primary election on August 13
The 2024 Partisan Primary is approaching, with the City of Janesville set to open six polling locations on August 13, 2024. Due to updated maps from the Wisconsin Legislature, an updated ward plan and polling place plan were required. Residents can visit myvote.wi.gov or the City’s website to locate their polling place.

Road closures scheduled for pavement marking in Janesville

Janesville closes Lions Beach due to elevated E. coli levels
The City of Janesville Recreation Division has announced the closure of Lions Beach due to elevated bacteria levels detected in recent water quality tests. The beach, located at 1401 Palmer Dr., undergoes weekly water quality sampling, with the State Hygiene Lab in Madison responsible for testing these samples for E. coli bacteria.

Janesville announces downtown & outgoing main street sweeping for July 18-19
The City of Janesville performs street sweeping several times each year. The fifth cycle of downtown and outgoing main street sweeping is planned to begin early Thursday morning, July 18, and be completed on Friday, July 19. The work is scheduled to start early in the morning on each day when traffic and street parking are minimal. On the first day of the cycle, city crews will sweep downtown streets and parking lots. On the second day of the cycle, city crews will sweep main arterial streets.

On the evening of Saturday, June 22, an EF-2 tornado touched down on the south side of the City of Janesville. With peak wind gusts of 115 miles per hour, this weather event caused considerable damage to structures and infrastructure in the impacted areas.

Janesville acquires riverfront land to expand public greenspace
As part of the Janesville Park and Open Space Plan, the City of Janesville has acquired riverfront property at 533 North Main Street. The city plans to utilize the 1.7-acre site to provide river access and extend the Riverwalk corridor between Traxler Park and downtown. The purchase will expand public greenspace and ensure that the Rock River remains accessible for community enjoyment.
